Bikes are beautiful

At Actual, we like bikes. A lot.

We're not sure they're going to solve all the problems of the world, but we're pretty sure they won't make 'em worse.

Oh, and don't get us wrong: we think you're sexy even when you don't ride your bikes - but we're positive that you're even sexier when you do.

So, we made space for bikes. Inside the Cafe. So you can roll your bike in out of the cold, hard world and have it keep you company while you drink your coffee or eat your lunch. Don't be embarrassed if you're not on a vintage track bike, or a one-of-a-kind Italian gold-plated number, or some featherweight aerospace kinda thing. Your rusty old Huffy is beautiful. Trust us.

We've worked hard to minimize internal combustion related to the Cafe. To that end, Xtracycle (whose world HQ is actually just a couple blocks down the street), gave us one of their fancy cargo bikes to use for picking up and dropping off. It would be much harder to run a car-free business with just a regular bike - with the Xtracycle, it's possible.

We're partnered with the East Bay Bike Coalition to sell their excellent area bike maps in the Cafe. And, if you're an EBBC member, we'll give you a discount. Just show your membership card.

We also made a machine called Sparkle Motion which is inspired by old penny-arcade movie viewers. But bike-powered. It hangs out in the Cafe most times, making people happy. We think it's pretty cool.

So...watch out for buses, and keep the rubber side down.

And one more thing: if you're a bikey-kinda person and have something interesting that you want to share with us, send us a note. We wanna know.
